4 Best Bowlers in Border-Gavaskar Trophy; Apart from the three Indians, Lion was the only Australian

Facing a strong team like Australia in Test cricket is not an easy task. However, India defeated Australia by four wickets in the first two matches of the 4-match Test series. However, India still struggled against Australia in the Indore Test match. Australia’s experienced bowlers made the Indian batsmen sweat and set towers of records. Among those bowlers is spinner Nathan Lyon. Lion took the most wickets in the second innings against India, scoring the third best bowling performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy so far.

It happened that the Indian team was batting in the second innings. This time India got off to a very poor start. India lost their first wicket in the form of Shubman Gill (5) for 15 runs. After that wickets kept falling at regular intervals. At one point, India’s score was 78 with the loss of 4 wickets. After that, Shreyas Iyer started hitting hard and took the score past hundred. But he could not last long. Cheteshwar Pujara was hitting hard from one side. He in between scored 59 off 142 balls and completed his half-century. However, he was also eliminated further. Barring Iyer (26) and Pujara (59), no one else crossed the 20-run mark. Thus India scored 163 runs losing all the wickets. 8 of these wickets were taken by Nathan Lion alone.

Nathan Lyon dismissed three of the four batsmen in the top order. He took the wickets of Rohit Sharma (12), Virat Kohli (13) and Ravindra Jadeja (7). He then took the wickets of KS Bharat (3), R Ashwin (16), Pujara (59), Umesh Yadav (0) and Mohammad Siraj (0). This time he spent 64 runs while bowling 22.3 overs and took 8 wickets. With this, a special record was recorded in his name. He became the third best bowler in Border-Gavaskar Trophy Tests.

The only Australian on the list
Indian bowler Jasubhai Patel is the top bowler in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He took 9 wickets in 1959 for 69 runs. After that, Nathan is in the second place and he took 8 wickets in 2017 spending 50 runs. Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh is at the fourth position. He took 8 wickets for 84 runs in 2001. Also, Kapil Dev is at the fifth position and in 1985 he took 8 wickets by spending 106 runs. Interestingly, three players in this list are Indians, while Nathan is the only Australian player.
