A big change in West Indies cricket, the Caribbean team will follow in the footsteps of England
There is going to be a big change in the West Indies cricket team. Last year the ICC T20 World Cup was played in Australia. The performance of West Indies in this World Cup was much worse than expected. The team, led by Nicholas Pooran, was eliminated in the first round. Against this backdrop, Cricket West Indies has decided to follow the footsteps of the England team. West Indies will have two different coaches for red and white ball cricket in the coming years.
According to the information given by the Director of Cricket West Indies, Jimmy Adams (), his team will appoint two different coaches in Test and limited overs cricket in the coming time. Speaking to the media, Adams said, “Looking at the current head coaches, it seems like two different coaches are needed for this position. There is a need to have different coaches in both the red ball and white ball formats.”
“The number of tours in different types is increasing one after the other. It is difficult to expect correct decisions from one person. That one person has to look after the bilateral series, preparation and strategy of the franchise,” added Adams. According to the information given by Cricket West Indies, the process of appointment of head coaches will start soon. The board also said that the coach who will be appointed for the Test team should also guide the West Indies A team. Jimmy Adams feels that splitting the coaching position will allow more attention to be paid to the performance of the players.
Meanwhile, Phil Simmons resigned as the team’s coach after West Indies’ poor performance in the T20 World Cup last year. West Indies were given a target of 161 runs by Scotland to win this World Cup. But his entire team was bowled out for just 118 runs. West Indies were given a target of 154 runs in the next match and they achieved it. But after losing the match against Ireland, West Indies crashed out in the first round of the World Cup.
After the World Cup, West Indies were defeated in two Test matches on their tour of Australia. Zimbabwe were later beaten 1–0 by the West Indies in the two-match series. The team lost 0-2 in the series against South Africa. West Indies have not played a single limited overs match since the end of the World Cup.
