There is a good news for the fans of former Indian cricketer and all-time great batsman Sachin Tendulkar. It has been announced that the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will erect a full-length statue of Sachin Tendulkar at the Wankhede Stadium to mark his 50th birthday. The statue is likely to be unveiled on Sachin’s birthday or during the ODI World Cup.
Sachin holds many records in international cricket. Sachin took the birth of cricket on this ground. Not only this, he also ended his twenty-four-year-long international cricket career on this ground. MCA took this decision considering his contribution to Indian cricket. According to MCA president Amol Kale,
“Sachin is Bharat Ratna. No one needs to be told what he has contributed to the game. I gave him an idea about this last month. We have started this process only after his consent.” Sachin Tendulkar will celebrate his 50th birthday on April 23. It is more likely that the statue will be unveiled on the same day. If not, it can be launched directly during the ODI World Cup in October.
Commenting on this, Sachin said,
“It was really a surprise for me. My career started here and ended here. I have unforgettable memories with this ground. The World Cup raised on this ground is the biggest moment of my life.”
Wankhede Stadium already has a stand named after Sachin Tendulkar. Last year, a corporate box named after India’s all-time great batsman Sunil Gavaskar was erected here. Also, there is a stand named after former captain Dilip Vengsarkar at the Wankhede Stadium.
