A live fan offered spot fixing to an international cricketer, now this action has taken place
A shocking news is coming out from the world of cricket. A fan who offered spot-fixing to a Zimbabwean international cricketer last year has been banned by the Zimbabwe Cricket Board for five years. This fan will no longer be able to watch any cricket match by attending the ground. Interestingly, an Indian bookie is also involved in this case.
In August last year, a fan offered to spot-fix Zimbabwean cricketer Luke Jongwe. He asked to pay as much as 7000 US dollars for this work. However, Zhongwei immediately rejected the idea and presented it to the ICC’s anti-bribery department. When the whole matter was investigated, it was revealed that the offer was made by a fan named Edward Walter Mupigano. In this case he had the upper hand of an Indian bookie. After this deal, Edwards was to receive 3000 US dollars.
Following an investigation into the matter, the Zimbabwe Cricket Board released a statement saying, “We are taking action against Edward.” He will not be able to visit any kind of cricket stadium for five years. He has accepted all the charges against him. Corruption tarnishes the image of any sport.
As for Luke Jongwe, he is currently a regular member of the Zimbabwe team. Jongwe, who made his international debut in 2014, has played 1 Test, 37 ODIs and 45 T20Is for Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe performed well in the T20 World Cup held in Australia last year. Jongwe was also part of that team.
