Delhi Capitals vs Gujarat Giants match was played on Saturday (March 11) in the first season of the Women’s Premier League. Delhi literally defeated Gujarat in this one-sided match. Chasing the target of 106 for victory, Delhi opener Shafali Verma batted with a storm to complete the target in just 7.1 overs to give the team their third win. Shafali won everyone’s heart with his stormy batting.

After winning the first two matches comfortably, Delhi were defeated by Mumbai in the third match. Delhi got the chance to bowl first in this match. All-rounder Marizan Kap guided five batsmen to the tent to restrict Gujarat’s innings to 105 for 9. Chasing 106 for victory, Shafali Verma single-handedly took the match to Delhi.
After her storming innings in the first match, she showed her true form in this match as well. From the first over, she attacked the Gujarat bowlers. She completed her half-century off 19 balls with a firework of fours and sixes. It became the second fastest half-century in the tournament. Even after this she did not stop. Delhi completed their challenge for victory in 7.1 overs. She remained unbeaten till the end and scored 76 runs off 28 balls. This included 10 fours and 5 towering sixes. After this innings, she has also moved up to the second position in the race for the Orange Cap.
Shafali Verma is known for aggressive batting. She led the Indian team in the Women’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup held in January. Under her leadership, the Indian team won this World Cup for themselves. She was then included in the Women’s Premier League auction by Delhi with a huge bid of Rs 2 crores.
