Admirable! Rahane, who made a comeback after 18 months, got the ‘Ha’ number in the Test rankings.
The Indian team had to lose in the final of the World Test Championship 2023. Australia had beaten India by 209 runs. However, veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane, who returned to the Indian team after 18 months, impressed everyone with his innings. He became the highest run-scorer for India in the WTC final. His innings benefited him tremendously in the ICC Test rankings. Interestingly, he was not even included in the list of top 100 players earlier.
Ajinkya Rahane scored 89 in the first innings and 46 in the second innings in the WTC Final. Now Rahane has jumped straight to the 37th position in the Test batting rankings. With the return of Rahane, the number five batsman problem for the Indian team is said to be solved.
All-rounder Shardul Thakur also benefited in the latest rankings announced by the ICC. He scored a brilliant half-century in the final to jump 6 places and finish at 94th. Rishabh Pant is the only player from India in the top 10 in the current batting rankings. He is ranked 10th.
R Ashwin’s dominance continues
In the WTC final against Australia, the Indian team decided not to play veteran spinner R Ashwin. Despite this, Ashwin remains at the top of the ICC Test bowling rankings. He is currently on the first position with 860 points, followed by James Anderson with 850 points.
Ravindra Jadeja’s status in the all-rounder rankings is also consistent. He tops with 434 points. Also, R Ashwin is second with 352 points. (cricketer ajinkya rahane s icc test batting rankings after wtc final 2023 moves to number 37 position)
