In the final match of the three-match ODI series between India vs Australia in Chennai on Wednesday (March 22), Steve Smith registered an unwelcome record. Smith won the toss and decided to bat in this match. After Australia’s first wicket fell for 68 runs, Smith came in to play at number three. This time Hardik Pandya came to bowl the 13th over. On Pandya’s second ball, Smith was caught by wicketkeeper KL Rahul. This time Smith played only 3 balls and was dismissed for zero runs.

With this, an unwanted record was recorded in Smith’s name. After almost 6 years, Smith was dismissed for zero in ODI cricket. Pandya did the job of dismissing him.

Steve Smith has played 142 ODI matches for Australia so far. He has scored 4939 runs at an average of 44.50 while batting in 126 innings. Smith has scored 12 centuries while making these runs. Also, 29 fifties have been scored.

Interestingly, Smith’s India tour did not go well. He could not perform particularly well in the four Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
