Mark Wood spent 15 runs in four overs and took as many as five wickets. As a result, Lucknow Super Giants won their first match of IPL 2023 by 50 runs. Captain KL Rahul also praised the entire team for the way the Lucknow players performed against Delhi Capitals. The third match of the ongoing IPL season was played in Lucknow on Saturday (April 1).
Lucknow scored 193 for 6 while batting first in this match. In reply, Delhi Capitals managed to reach 143 for 9 in 20 overs. After winning the match, Rajasthan captain KL Rahul said, “We didn’t know much about the pitch. I think we scored 25-30 runs more than what was expected on this pitch. The way Kyle Meyers played, and the way the other batsmen played against the spin bowlers, made it possible to reach this score.”
Speaking further, Rahul also praised the bowlers in the team. Rahul said, “There was dew on the pitch. In that case, I thought that the pitch would become unfriendly for batting. But our bowlers performed amazingly. Today was Mark Wood’s day. He bowled like every fast bowler’s dream. Once a player is in such good form, the team also benefits from his form.”
Overall, Delhi won the toss and elected to bowl first. After Lucknow came to bat first, opener Kyle Meyers scored 73 runs. In reply, Delhi captain David Warner was able to score 56 runs. But Warner’s solitary fight could not lead the team to victory. Apart from Warner, none of Delhi’s batsmen could score a half-century.
