Virat, who has been struggling so far in this series, showed his quality on this pitch which is somewhat friendly to the batsman. This became his 29th century in Test career. Interestingly, after 14 months, he managed to score a half century. At the end of the third day’s play, he is unbeaten on 59 runs.

During this innings, he became the fifth Indian batsman to score 4000 runs in Test cricket on Indian soil. Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag have done this feat before him. Along with this record, Virat also finished second in the list of highest run scorers against Australia. Virat has scored 4729 runs in 104 innings against Australia. He surpassed former West Indies captain Brian Lara’s record of 4714 runs. India’s Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 6707 runs.

When it comes to the match, Australia dominated the first two days. Usman Khawaja scored 180 while Cameron Green scored 114 runs. Thanks to the contribution of these two, Australia posted 480 runs in the first innings. Then on the third day, young opener Shubman Gill contributed 128 runs for the Indian team. When play was stopped on the third day, the Indian team had scored 289 for 3.
