The second Test match between India and Australia was played in Delhi. The Indian team defeated Australia on the third day to take a 2-0 lead in the series. After easily winning the Nagpur Test, the Indian team had to struggle a bit in this match. Batting first, Australia scored 263 runs on the strength of Peter Handscomb and Usman Khawaja. In reply, the Indian team scored 262 runs. Australia’s second innings collapsed to just 113 runs, leaving India with a challenge of 115 runs for victory. The Indian team passed the challenge losing four wickets. Ravindra Jadeja, who took ten wickets in the match, became the man of the match.
After this victory, the second position of the Indian team in the world ranking has become stronger. After this win, India’s points percentage has increased to 64.06. However, India’s place in the finals of the World Test Championship is yet to be confirmed. India will have to win one of the next two Tests. Currently, Australia is at the first position in this ranking.
However, after the victory of the Indian team, the South African team has been completely eliminated from the tournament. The final of the World Test Championship will be preceded by a two-match Test series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. A 2-0 win in the series would have kept Sri Lanka in contention for the finals. But before that, India needs to beat Australia 4-0.
