After the Indian bowling attack on the first day, Head says, “They took the test but…”
The first day of the final match of the World Test Championship took place on Wednesday (June 7). This match between the two teams is being played at The Oval Stadium in England. After losing the toss, Australia had to bat first. However, thanks to the contributions of both Steve Smith and Travis Head, the team was able to cross the 300-run mark. Head, who scored an unbeaten century on the first day, gave his reaction after the day’s play.
After winning the toss and bowling first, the Indian bowlers dismissed Australia’s first three batsmen for 76 runs. However, Head, who then came to bat, counter-attacked the Indian bowlers. He even started scoring runs at a fast pace while batting ODI style. After completing his half-century, he stepped up his attack and completed his century off 106 balls. He ended the day’s play unbeaten on 146 off 156 balls. This includes 22 fours and one six.
Speaking after the first day’s play, he said,
“Having lost the toss, batting first was expected to get off to a good start. Warner and Marnus handled the tough times well. That gave me the freedom to play. A few balls tested me but I moved on from that. I always enjoy batting with Smith. He is adept at managing the game according to the situation.”
By the end of the first day’s play, the Australian team had scored 327 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. A total of 85 overs could be played on the first day. The Indian team will face the challenge of knocking out Australia early on the next day.
