After the spat with Gambhir, Virat wrote directly to the BCCI, saying, “The action taken against me…”
The 43rd match of IPL 2023 was played as Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Lucknow Supergiants. A lot of controversy was seen in this match. RCB captain Virat Kohli, Lucknow’s young fast bowler Naveen Ul Haq and Lucknow’s mentor Gautam Gambhir were at the center of this controversy. After this dispute, the match referee took punitive action against the three. However, now Virat Kohli has written a letter directly to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) explaining his stand on the matter.
In this match held at the Ikana Stadium in Lucknow, RCB defended a small score and won brilliantly. But during the match there was an argument between Virat Kohli and Naveen Ul Haq. After the match, the two also got into an argument while shaking hands. After that, Lucknow’s mentor Gautam Gambhir also jumped into the controversy and took some verbal jabs at Virat. As the matter escalated, both the players turned on each other. The entire affair brought the IPL and all the players into disrepute. The match referee took action against Gambhir and Virat to reduce the match fee by 100 percent. So, Naveen was fined 50 percent of the match fee.
Virat said while writing a letter about this,
“I am innocent. In that case I had not said anything to the opposition, which would have made a major action unwarranted.”
After the action taken against him, Virat expressed his disappointment in this matter to some BCCI officials in private. Virat had to pay a huge amount of 1 crore 25 lakh as a fine. However, RCB paid this amount.
