Ajinkya Rahane quality knock! A century missed by just ‘so many’ runs, a great record kept on happening

Ajinkya Rahane once again showed his quality. Rahane got a chance to play for the Indian team after 18 years for the World Test Championship. The performance of Rahane, who returned to the team after such a long time, became the most important for the team. Rahane came on the field when the team was in trouble and played a big knock under pressure. He fell just 11 runs short of his century. Rahane’s 89 runs put India in good shape.

Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed when India scored 261 in the first innings. Rahane came to the field when India scored 50 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Rahane was supported by Ravindra Jadeja after Virat Kohli (14) lost his wicket. A half-century partnership was struck between Rahane and Jadeja as the team struggled. Later, Jadeja was also dismissed for 48 runs. KS Bharat was expected to support him well. But wicketkeeper Bharat was dismissed for just 5 runs. India’s bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur, however, looked in good form after taking to the field on the third day. He formed an important partnership with Rahane, who was already set.

With the Indian team in trouble, everyone expected Rahane to complete his century soon. However, Pat Cummins got his wicket in the 62nd ball of the innings. The last ball of the Australian skipper’s over went to Rahane’s bat and caught Cameron Greene, who was caught in the slip. Green also took this crucial catch without making a single mistake. Had Rahane completed his century, he would have become the first player to do so for India in a WTC final.

Ajinkya Rahane () is a legendary batsman of the Indian team. India has won many important matches and series under his leadership. However, he was out of the team after January 2022. He was shown the way out of the team due to poor form. But he made a strong comeback in the recently concluded IPL 2023. It was against this backdrop that Rahane was selected in the squad for the WTC finals. Rahane justified the faith reposed in him by the team management and selectors.
