All-rounder Deepti Sharma joins UP Warriors squad, franchise spends ‘so much’ crores

Indian women’s team’s young all-rounder Deepti Sharma earned Rs 2.60 crore in the Women’s Premier League. The WPL auction, which was held on Monday (February 13), saw franchises splurge on women players. A total of five teams will be playing in the WPL (Women’s IPL), which is being held for the first time this year. The UP Warriors team spent a huge amount of money to bring Deepti into the team.

The BCCI has been asking to host the Women’s IPL for the past few years. This year the competition is finally starting. Teams like Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriors spent a fortune in the player auction held in Mumbai on Monday. Each franchise was allowed to spend Rs 12 crore to buy their team. It is equally important to spend money on the right players. Deepti Sharma () made her debut for the Indian women’s cricket team last year 2014 and has been a match winner in several important matches so far.

Deepti Sharma has played 80 ODIs and 88 T20 Internationals for the Indian team so far. Deepti has contributed 1891 and 914 runs respectively in this format. In the bowling department, she has taken 91 wickets in ODI cricket and 97 wickets in T20 internationals. Deepti made her debut in Test cricket in 2021 and has got the opportunity to represent the team in only two Test matches so far. She has 152 runs and 5 wickets in Tests.

Meanwhile, Indian team captain Hasmanpreet Kaur () was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.80 crore in the auction held by BCCI on Monday. However, RCB spent lavishly on India’s opener Smriti Mandhana. RCB bid Rs 3.40 crore to get Smriti in the team. Gujarat Giants spent Rs 3.20 crore to buy Australia’s Ashley Gardner. Ether also many players were sold for crores of rupees.
