All-rounder Shaheen Afridi becomes PSL champion for second time, Kynor Pollard’s team defeated
Shaheen Afridi created history on Saturday (March 19) night. Shaheen became the first African captain to win two Pakistan Super League trophies. The final match of PSL 2023 was played in Lahore on Saturday. In this match, Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans teams played against each other. Shaheen-led Lahore sealed victory off the last ball and won their second straight PSL trophy.
Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi was also awarded the man of the match award after his impressive performance in the match. He conceded 51 runs in his 4 overs, but also took 4 important wickets. Multan Sultans were given a target of 201 runs to win, which the team tried till the last ball to achieve. But in the end Lahore Qalandars won. Lahore won the match by just 1 run.
With Multan needing 4 runs off the last ball, Khushdil Shah on strike could not hit a four or a six. Khushdil played this last ball bowled by Zaman Khan, but he had to settle for just two runs. The batsmen on the pitch tried to get the third run, but the bowler hit the stumps on a non-strike before reaching strike. As a result, Multan fell one run short of tying the match. Had the batsmen completed the third run, the fans could have seen the thrill of the Super Over.
Earlier, Lahore Qalandars scored 200 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs while batting first. Man of the match, Shaheen African not only contributed in bowling but also in batting. He scored an unbeaten 44 off just 15 balls to take the team to 200. Apart from that, Abdulla Shafiq played an important knock of 65 runs in the top order. Usman Mir took the most 3 wickets for Multan.
After Multan Sultans came into the field chasing 201 runs, their openers did not get off to the desired start. Riley Russo, who came to bat at number three, scored a blistering 52 runs off 32 balls. For Multan, the team came close to victory thanks to the contribution of each player in the batting. But they lost on the last ball.
