…and that dream of AB de Villiers remains unfulfilled after all!

Among the legendary cricketers of the world, the name of many players from South Africa is included. Among those players is the name of AB de Villiers. It has been 5 years since de Villiers retired from international cricket, but even today he has some records which no one has been able to break. However, there was one feat that de Villiers could not complete in his career. Interestingly, de Villiers celebrates his 39th birthday on Friday (February 17). Let’s take a look at his lackluster performance on this occasion…

AB De Villiers has scored 8765 runs in 144 Tests at an average of 50.66, 9577 runs in 228 ODI matches at an average of 53.5, and 1672 runs in 78 T20 matches at an average of 26.12 for South Africa. He has scored 25 centuries and 53 fifties in 228 ODIs.

De Villiers retired from international cricket almost 5 years ago i.e. in 2018, but he was playing in various leagues around the world. However, he retired from all forms of cricket on November 19, 2021. Meanwhile, his return to international cricket was often discussed. But, he did not return to international cricket after 2018. So he did not get a chance to complete 10000 runs in ODI cricket.

This player needed only 423 runs to reach 10000 runs in ODIs. He has scored 25 centuries and 53 fifties in 228 ODIs.

Till date 14 players have crossed the 10 thousand runs mark in ODIs. South Africa’s Jacques Kallis is the only player in it. So, if de Villiers had scored another 423 runs, he would have become the second South African cricketer to score 10,000 runs in ODIs. (ab de villiars didnt even wait to complete his 10000 runs)
