Anil Kumble’s biggest reaction to police action against wrestlers; Said, ‘Hatapai…’

Since the end of April, Indian wrestlers have been protesting at Jantar-Mantar in New Delhi. The movement was started to demand the arrest of Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, the former president of the Wrestling Federation of India. Finally, on Sunday (May 28), the protest of the wrestlers was called off. There were different reactions from across the country on the action taken with the wrestlers. Meanwhile, former Indian team player Anil Kumble is disappointed with the action taken against the wrestler.

At Jantar-Mantar, Delhi Police forcefully put Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and Sangeeta Phogat on a bus along with Olympic and World Championship medalists. When the wrestlers and their supporters tried to break the security cordon and go to the new parliament building for the women’s ‘mahapanchayat’, the police took action against them.

Brijbhushan Sharan Singh has been accused of sexually assaulting minor female wrestlers. On the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building, he had called for Mahila Mahapanchayat. Anil Kumble feels that this issue could have been resolved through dialogue.

What did Anil Kumble say?
Kumble, the fourth highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, said on Tuesday (30), “I am very disappointed to hear about the scuffle with our wrestlers on May 28. Everything can be resolved through dialogue, hoping to find a solution to this matter at the earliest.”

On Monday (May 29), Olympic shooter Abhinav Bindra, successful Indian footballer Sunil Chhetri and former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan criticized the action against the wrestlers. (Former cricketer Anil Kumble reacts on action against protesting wrestlers)
