Arshdeep’s address cut from the World Cup? BCCI’s ‘this’ decision raised a question
The Indian cricket team has been announced for the Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China in the month of September-October. Maharashtra captain Rituraj Gaikwad will lead the Indian team for this tournament. All the players in this team are young and BCCI has decided to send this team considering the future. Left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been selected in this team. However, it is said that this may miss his chance to play in the World Cup.
This year, ODI World Cup will be played in October-November in India. Earlier, cricket matches were played in the Asian Games in China from 28 September to 8 October. So, the World Cup will start from October 5. Therefore, it seems difficult for the players of this team to play in the World Cup.
In this case, since Arshdeep will be playing in the Asian Games, there is little chance of him playing in the World Cup. The Indian team can enter the World Cup with four fast bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj will be the main fast bowlers. So, Shardul Thakur can play a role as a fast bowling all-rounder. In such a situation, Arshdeep may have to sit out of the team.
The Indian team had decided to field four fast bowlers in the 2011 ODI World Cup. These included Zaheer Khan, Sreesanth, Ashish Nehra and Munaf Patel. Among them, Zaheer and Nehra were left-handed bowlers. So Arshdeep would have been important for the Indian team in Indian conditions.
