Ashes 2023. Game incomplete due to rain; England lead at the end of the third day, Australia also started well

A total of 43 overs were bowled on the third day of the Edgbaston Test. The Ashes 2023 season began on Wednesday (June 16). Both England and Australia are in good form in the first match of the series. But on Sunday (June 18), the match was in full swing due to rain, which left players and fans disappointed. At the end of the third day, England scored 28 for 2 in their second innings and the team is leading by 35 runs.

Australia’s opener Usman Khawaja and wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey started the third day. Australia’s score at that time was 311 for 5. At the end of the second day, Khawaz remained on the field with 126 and Carey with 52 runs. England fast bowler James Anderson took the first wicket of the third day as Alex Carey. This was the first wicket of Anders in this match. Carey scored 66 runs, while Khawaja stayed on the pitch for 141 runs. Just when it looked like the Australian team would take the lead in the first innings, the England bowlers made a strong comeback. Khawaja lost his wicket when the team scored 372. Australia then lost the next three wickets when the team’s score was 386. Stuart Broad and Ollie Robinson took three wickets each for England in the first innings. Moeen Ali took two wickets, while Ben Stokes and James Anderson got one wicket each.

England team was leading by 7 runs after the first innings. After coming into bat for the second time, it was up to openers Zac Crowley and Ben Ducketh to get England off to a good start. But they lost their wickets by scoring 7 and 19 runs respectively. Although the Australian team got off to a good start, it was delayed by rain. The match was stopped for almost an hour after rain came in the seventh over. After that, the game started and Australia got two wickets. While Australia had the advantage on the pitch, rain again made an appearance in the 11th over and match day play had to be called off. Currently England team is leading by 35 runs. A total of 18 wickets must be lost in the last two days to decide the match. The fourth day will be crucial for Australia.
