One of the most experienced players in the Indian cricket team is veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Although Ashwin is not part of the limited overs squad, he is a regular member of the Test team. Additionally, he is seen playing in the IPL. At the same time, his name has often been discussed for the captaincy of India. Now his teammate Dinesh Karthik has expressed his desire to see him captain India.
Ashwin has not been part of India’s limited overs squad since last year. Nevertheless, the 37-year-old Ashwin is a key part of the Test team. There was a lot of controversy when he did not get a chance in the final of the World Test Championship.
The Indian team will play the World Cup in India in the month of October November. A few days before that, the Indian team will be seen playing in the Asian Games. India’s premier team is preparing for the World Cup, while another team will be playing the tournament. Speaking on the same issue, Karthik said,
“If Ashwin is not part of the World Cup plan, he should be given a chance in the Asian tournament. Even if he is given the leadership of the team, it will not feel special. Personally I would like to see him captain India.”
“What he has done for the Indian team, not everyone can do. He is a great player of test cricket. If he gets the chance to become Karma Dhar, it will be a proud moment in his glorious career.”
There is a possibility that the Indian team will be led by Shikhar Dhawan in the Asian tournament. The competition will start at the end of September and end in the second week of October. The ODI World Cup will start from October 5.
