The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the Indian women’s cricket team for the Asian Games on Friday (July 14). This year, the Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China in the month of September-October. The Indian women’s cricket team led by Harmanpreet Kaur will also participate in the same tournament. As usual Smriti Mandhana will hold the post of vice-captain of the team.
Apart from Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shefali Verma, Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh have been named in the squad for the Asian Games. This year, the cricket matches in the Asian Games will be played in the T20 format. Meanwhile, this is the second time, the Indian team will be playing in a multi-sports event. The Indian women’s cricket team also participated in the national championships held in Birmingham last year. At that time, India had to accept defeat by Australia in the final match. Renuka Singh, who took 11 wickets in five matches in the Rashtrakul Tournament, has not been included in the squad for the Asian Games.
