At the age of 40, James Anderson’s maximum, again became the No. 1 Test bowler
Currently, the Border Gavaskar Trophy is being played between India and Australia for four Test matches. Also, the mighty England team is playing a two-match Test series with New Zealand. These two Test series seem to have affected his ICC rankings. England legend James Anderson became the number one Test bowler in the latest rankings released on Tuesday (February 21). While Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also remains in his place as the best all-rounder.
England are currently on a tour of New Zealand for a two-match Test series. England won the first Test match of the series by 267 runs. James Anderson took three wickets in the first innings of this match and four wickets in the second innings. His seven wickets in this match saw him improve his Test rankings come Test Tuesday. At the age of 40, Anderson has once again reached number one in the Test rankings. On the other hand, Australia’s legendary fast bowler and Test captain Pat Cummins suffered a loss in his rankings.
Australian team led by Pat Cummins toured India, but were beaten by hosts India in the first two Tests of the series. Cummins’ individual performances in these two matches were also nothing special. In the first Test played in Nagpur, Australia had to bowl only once. Skipper Cummins took just two wickets and lost the match by an innings and 132 runs. In the second match, Cummins could take only one wicket. Pat Cummins, who was the number one bowler in the ICC Test rankings, has now slipped to the third position after this disappointing performance. India’s Ravichandran Ashwin jumps one place to the second position.
On the other hand, the Indian team has seen good dominance in this test series. Captain Rohit Sharma remains seventh in the list of Test batsmen. In the first two Tests against Australia, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel bowled tremendous spin and forced the Australian team to kneel. While Jadeja has retained his number one spot in the Cosit spin all-rounders list, Ashwin has retained his second spot. Akshar Patel, however, has gained two positions this time and has now become the fifth-ranked Test all-rounder. Mitchell Starc (6) and Jason Holder (7) have slipped down the list of all-rounders, while Pat Cummins has moved up one place to eighth.
Ravindra Jadeja has been away from the cricket field for the past few months due to injury. But the way he bounced back against Australia did the all-rounder good. Jadeja, the number one all-rounder, has jumped to the 9th position in the bowlers’ list. He is still at number 33 in the list of batsmen. (At the age of 40, James Anderson became the number 1 Test bowler again)
