Australia in trouble again ahead of Delhi Test, VCA staff ‘water’ on expectations of visiting teams
The second Test match between India and Australia will be played in Delhi from February 17. Earlier, the first match of the series was played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur. India won the first Test by an innings and 132 runs, but the pitch at the Nagpur Stadium became a point of contention. The Australian team wanted to practice after the defeat on a pitch more suited to spinners, but the ground staff let Australia down.
In the Nagpur Test, the pitch was favorable for the spinners. Todd Murphy made his Test debut for Australia in this match and took 7 wickets in the first innings. For India, Ravindra Jadeja took five wickets in the first match and Ravichandran Ashwin in the second match. Out of the 20 wickets in the match, Jadeja and Ashwin took 15 wickets together. The Australian batsmen, however, seemed to be in trouble due to the Indian spinners. Australia’s first innings was 177, while the second innings was wrapped up for just 91 runs.
After a poor batting performance in the first match, the Australian team will not want to perform like this in the second Test. After the Nagpur Test match was settled on the third day, Australia had to practice on the pitch here for the next two days. The Australian team had also requested the ground staff to practice on the pitch after the loss in the first Test. But the staff still poured water on the pitch after the match on Saturday (11 February). In this case, the Australian team will not be able to practice on this pitch. After this case, former Australian cricketer Ian Healy is very angry.
Commenting on the matter, veteran Ian Healy said, “This is wrong. Why was water poured on the pitch despite the request of the Australian team? ICC should intervene in this case. This is very disappointing and not good for cricket. This demand was made only for next week’s practice session. But to do so suddenly is very wrong.” Earlier in the live match Ravindra Jadeja had also started a controversy after applying ointment on his finger. In this case, after pouring water on the pitch, it will be known soon how much this matter will burn.
Meanwhile, after accepting defeat in the first Test, the Australian team has trailed by 1-0 in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The second Test between the two teams will be played in Delhi from February 17. The third match of the series will start on March 1, while the fourth match will be played between March 9 and 14. The World Test Championship is in its final phase and after India win the series, the team can reach the final of the Asoti Championship. The final of the championship will be played from June 7 to 11 at The Oval. (Even when Australia was supposed to practice in Nagpur, the ground staff poured water on the pitch)
