Australia’s Batting Coach Reads Delhi Test Mistakes; Said, ‘If you can’t play in this country, then…’

Speaking about the strategy, Michael Di Venuto said that his batsmen were playing the game according to the strategy till the end of the innings. Australia had lost 8 wickets within 28 runs. “Definitely our strategy was wrong,” Michael said. We had a good strategy, but if the players don’t work with the strategy, they will face problems and that’s what we saw.”

Speaking further, he said, “Definitely at that point in the match, we were under pressure and the players felt that if we score more 50 runs in a row, the team will benefit. However, you cannot do that in this country. We had discussed it, so it wasn’t like this was new. However, strange things happen under pressure and as we have seen, many of our veteran players like to play sweep shots and score runs as soon as they get to the crease. It’s not like it’s a matter of disappointment, but it wasn’t a good 90 minutes of batting.”

Most of the Australian batsmen lost their wickets trying to play the sweep shot. Also, Michael admits that it can be a risk for players who can’t play the shot well. “It’s definitely clear where we went wrong,” he said. We used the same method in batting. You want to keep playing in this country and move forward. If you go out of strategy, your troubles can escalate.”

The third match between India vs Australia will be played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore from March 1 to 5. This match is a week away.
