BEN BLAST AT LORDS! Although the team lost, Stokes broke the 24-year-old world record
The Lord’s Test between England and Australia was very exciting. Australia won the second match of the Ashes 2023 by 43 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the series. Captain Ben Stokes fought alone in the fourth innings for England in this match. He scored an aggressive half century. However, he could not lead the team to victory. Nevertheless, he created a world record during this innings.
England needed 256 runs on the last day. At the end of the fourth day, he had scored 114 for 4. Ben Stokes and Ben Duckett opened the final day for England. After Duckett and Jonny Bairstow were dismissed in the first session, Stokes shouldered the responsibility of leading the team to victory. He led his team to victory while batting with a storm.
He was dismissed when England needed 70 runs to win. He scored 155 runs off 214 balls with 9 fours and 9 sixes before his dismissal. With this he became the first England captain to score a century in the fourth innings. He also became the highest run-scorer to bat at number six or below. Earlier this record was held by Australia’s Adam Gilchrist in Test cricket. He scored 149 against Pakistan in Hobart in 1999.
With England losing this match, they now have to win the next three matches in the series. Even if one of these matches ends in a draw, Australia will be able to retain the Ashes once again.
