Hockley said, “Brian has received great respect and admiration throughout the cricketing world and beyond. Our deepest condolences to his wife Judy and his family, friends and family. Fewer than 50 players have captained Australia’s men’s Test team, and Brian’s name joins that legendary list. His life has been extraordinary and sadly, he will be missed. His contribution to cricket has become an inspiration. He will always be missed.”
In addition, Cricket NSW CEO Lee Jarmon said his calm nature will always be remembered. He said, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Brian Booth. History records Brian’s record as a leader on the field of play. Also, to play hockey for Australia in the Olympics on home soil shows how special he was as an athlete.”

Brian Booth represented Australia 29 times. He also led Australia in two Ashes series against England between 19645-66. He scored 1773 runs at an average of 42.21 in 29 Test matches while playing for Australia. Additionally, he scored 11,265 runs at an average of 45.42 in 283 innings from 183 matches in first-class cricket. It also included 26 centuries and 60 fifties.
