According to the hybrid model devised by the Pakistan Cricket Board, the Indian team will play all its matches outside Pakistan. However, the matches of all other countries in the Asia Cup will be held in Pakistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has not played in Pakistan for many years due to safety concerns of its players. Even this time, BCCI is firm on its stand. BCCI also does not accept the hybrid model proposed by PCB. However, there are reports in the media that the Bangladesh and Sri Lankan cricket teams have agreed to this hybrid model. BCB and SLC have said they have no problem with the hybrid model.

In this regard, Pakistan Cricket Board President Najam Sethi has applied to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in this regard. BCCI Secretary and ACC President Jai Shah will explain their position on this application in the next two days. However, it does not seem that this application will have any impact on the BCCI’s decision. According to a BCCI official, the board is adamant about hosting the Asia Cup outside Pakistan.

In an interview to a news agency, the official said, “I have not seen the application, but our opinion has not changed. We want the competition to be held at a neutral location, not in the UAE. It’s very hot out there and we don’t want to take any more risks with the fitness of the players. Srilak is a good place for this tournament. So far we have not thought of boycotting this competition. Let’s first understand the situation and then take a decision on it.”

Meanwhile, the political tension in Pakistan has been seen to increase a lot since last few days. Pakistan’s former cricketer and Prime Minister Imran Khan’s involvement was discussed worldwide. In this case, organizing a big tournament like the Asia Cup here can be risky.
