Birthday Special: Rohit Sharma’s ‘These’ 5 records are simply impossible for any player to break

Sunday (April 30) marks the 36th birthday of India’s cricketer Rohit Sharma, known as the ‘Hitman’. Rohit Sharma, who made his international debut as a middle-order batsman in the year 2007, has created a distinct identity as an opener in the past few years. He has held many world records in his 16-year career till date. Some of these world records are almost impossible to break. A review of such records –

1. 3 double centuries in ODIs
Rohit Sharma has scored 3 double centuries in ODIs. He is the first and currently the only cricketer to achieve such a feat. So far only 8 players have managed to score a double century in ODIs. Apart from Rohit, other 7 players have scored a double century only once.

Rohit scored his first double century on 2 November 2013 against Australia. He had scored 209 runs off 158 balls at that time. He then scored his highest ODI score of 264 off 173 balls against Sri Lanka on 13 November 2014. It was his second double century.

3 years later, he scored his third double century on 13 December 2017 against Sri Lanka with an unbeaten 208. Breaking his record of 3 ODI double centuries is difficult for any cricketer at present.

2. Highest knock of 264 runs in ODIs
On 13 November 2014, Rohit scored his second double century against Sri Lanka in Kolkata, 1 year after his first double century in ODIs. At that time he scored 264 runs in 173 balls with the help of 33 fours and 9 sixes. This was the highest individual score in the history of ODI cricket.

Rohit had scored as many as 186 runs out of 264 runs by hitting fours and sixes. Even this record of Rohit is difficult to break. Because till now, apart from Rohit, even the players who have scored double centuries in ODIs have not been able to cross the mark of 240 runs.

3. 5 Centuries in a World Cup
In the 2019 World Cup held in England and Wales, Rohit scored as many as 5 centuries, not one or two. No cricketer had scored 5 centuries in a single World Cup before. Rohit scored centuries against South Africa, Pakistan, England, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. She also scored 648 runs in the World Cup with 5 centuries.

4. Most centuries in T20 Internationals
Rohit has scored 4 centuries in international T20 so far. He scored his first century against South Africa in T20I in 2015. At that time he had scored 106 runs. Rohit then scored a century of 118 against Sri Lanka in 2017. After this he scored 111 and 100 not out centuries against West Indies and England in 2018 respectively.

So Rohit is the first and currently the only cricketer to score 4 centuries in T20. So far no one has scored 4 centuries in T20 Internationals. After Rohit, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell, New Zealand’s Colin Munro, Pakistan’s Babar Azam, India’s Suryakumar Yadav, Czech Republic’s Sabavun Davizi have scored 3 centuries.

5. Player to win 5 IPL titles
Rohit Sharma is the only player to win 6 out of 6 IPL finals as a player. Rohit first tasted an IPL title in 2009 while playing for Deccan Chargers.

Later, Rohit joined the Mumbai Indians team from 2011 onwards. He has won IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 while playing for Mumbai Indians. The special thing is that Rohit has led Mumbai Indians in all these five seasons. So he is the first captain to win 5 IPL titles as a captain as well.

Apart from Rohit, only 3 players have won 4 IPL titles as players so far. It includes Harbhajan Singh, Ambati Rayudu and Yusuf Pathan.
