Bishnoni not out despite being out of the crease! Harshal Patel’s ‘this’ mistake also contributed to RCB’s defeat
Harshal Patel, the fast bowler of Royal Challengers Bangalore, bowled brilliantly against Lucknow Super Giants. Harshal also got two wickets in the last over. However, the team could not win. A mistake by RCB wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik cost the team dearly. Earlier, Harshal Patel also had a chance to take the match to a super over. But he could not take advantage of the opportunity on the last ball.
At the end of the 19th over, Lucknow Super Giants scored 208 for 7. They needed 5 runs from the last over to win and also had three wickets in hand. But Harshal Patel came to bowl in the last over and the victory became very difficult for Lucknow. Patel blasted Mark Wood for a triple on the second ball of this over. On the fifth ball, Jaydev Unadkad was caught by Faf du Plessis.
Avesh Khan was on strike while Ravi Bishnoi was on non-strike off the last ball. Lucknow needed one last run to win and the team did not have a single wicket to spare. As Harshal Patel runs in to bowl the last ball, Bishnoi on a non-strike steps forward for a run. But Patel’s focus is on the non-strike batsman. Seeing Bishnoi walking out of the crease, he tried to hit the stumps instead of hitting the batsman. However, his hand did not reach the stumps. Later, after the run progressed, Pate hit the ball again on the stumps for a non-strike, but the umpires did not give Bishnoi a run out. Bishnoi was out of the crease this time too. But as per the rules, Patel went beyond the point of delivery from where he can run out the non-striker. Based on this rule, the umpire decided that Bishnoi was not out.
One of the craziest scenes on the final ball:
LSG needed 1 with just 1 wicket in hand on the final ball. Harshal Patel tried to run out Ravi Bishnoi at the non-striker’s end, but fumbled.

However, the fans were well entertained by the confusion on the last ball. After this whole sequence, Harshal Patel had to bowl the ball again and this time too he was successful. Avesh Khan on strike could not play the last ball. But wicket keeper Dine Karthik also failed to catch this ball in time and the batsmen completed one run. As a result RCB had to face defeat despite performing well throughout the match. Harshal Patel’s bowling in the last over really deserves praise.
It wasn’t me but Virat Kohli who told Harshal Patel to do that mankad / run out on the last ball to draw that match.
It’s certainly the lowest point of my cricketing career, for any cricket team or any player. Shame on us.– Faf Du Plessis in Post Match

Considering the overall match, RCB scored 212 for 2 while batting first. In reply, Lucknow reached the target for the loss of 9 wickets and on the last ball of the innings. Marcus Stoinis scored 65 and Nicholas Pooran scored 62 for Lucknow. Pooran scored the fastest half-century of the season in just 15 balls. Mohammad Siraj and Wayne Parnell took three wickets each. Harshal Patel took two wickets and Karn Sharma took 1 wicket. Faf du Plessis (79), Virat Kohli (61), and Glenn Maxwell (59) scored fifties for RCB while batting earlier. (RCB had to accept the defeat as Harshal Patel missed the chance to Non strike run out)
