Big news is coming out from Indian cricket. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Supreme Council meeting was held in Mumbai on Friday (July 07). After this meeting, the BCCI has allowed the Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams to participate in the Asian Games 2023. This year, the Asian Games will be held in China from September 23 to October 8.
Interestingly, the Indian Women Team will begin their campaign in the Asian Games 2023 from September 19. Also, the Indian Men’s B team will begin their tournament campaign from September 28. Earlier, cricket was included in the Asian Games twice.
BCCI to make men’s B team
According to media reports, the BCCI has decided to form a men’s B team due to the busy international schedule. The BCCI has said that it has been decided to field the best teams to win both the women’s and men’s categories.
Men’s and women’s teams will participate
In a statement, the BCCI said that it would be difficult to field a team in the Asian Games given the busy international cricket schedule. Team India will be a strong contender to win the gold medal in both the men’s and women’s events. The board said, “Men’s and women’s teams were to be formed as per the directions of the Government of India through effective planning, communication and coordination. Also, BCCI aims to successfully meet the challenges and contribute to the national interest.”
Cricket has been included in the Asian Games twice
In fact, cricket was part of the Asian Games twice between 2010 and 2014. However, India did not send a team both times due to other commitments. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have won 1 gold medal each in the men’s cricket competition, while Pakistan have won two seasons in the women’s competition.
