The Maharashtra Premier League Franchise Auction conducted by the Maharashtra Cricket Association was held on Saturday (June 3), starting after a long wait. This auction received an unprecedented response from interested team owners and many entrepreneurs. As many as Rs 57.80 crore were bid for this franchise of six teams. This is the highest amount in any state association league in domestic cricket.
20 aspirants participated in this auction held in Pune. The most expensive bid in the tournament went to the Pune franchise. Praveen Masala bought this team for Rs 14.8 crore. Pune-based entrepreneur Punit Balan shelled out Rs 11 crore for the Kolhapur franchise. Eagle Infra bought the Nashik franchise for 9.10 crores. 8.70 crore by the Venkateswar Group for the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar franchise, Rs. 8.30 crore by JetSynthesis India for the Ratnagiri franchise and Rs. 7 crore by Kapil Sons for the Solapur franchise.
After this auction, each team was allowed to select one icon player. Placing the highest bid earned the Pune franchise the honor of picking the first player. He included Rituraj Gaikwad in his team. The Kolhapur franchise included Kedar Jadhav and the Nashik franchise Rahul Tripathi who represented the Indian team as part of their squad. The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar franchise has shown faith in young all-rounder Rajvardhan Hungergekar, Ratnagiri in all-rounder Azim Kazi and the Solapur franchise in young spinner Vicky Ostwal. Maharashtra Cricket Association President Rohit Pawar thanked all the team owners.
The auction of players for this tournament will be held on June 6. Each team will have a purse of Rs 20 lakh. Each team can field a minimum of 16 players. The tournament will be held from June 15 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association International Stadium in Gahunje.
