Bumrah’s career in danger! Question mark on playing IPL now, WTC will be unavailable for finals?
Jasprit Bumrah, the veteran fast bowler of the Indian cricket team, has not played cricket for the Indian team for the last six months. Due to a back injury, he could not play in the important tournaments like Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. He then withdrew from the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy four-match Test series against Australia and the upcoming ODI series. However, the wait for his comeback is likely to drag on for another three months.
Bumrah was in talks to make a comeback from the IPL starting at the end of March. However, according to the information available now, the possibility of him playing the entire IPL is very unlikely. According to a report by a cricket website,
Bumrah, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy, is still not fully fit. So he can now miss IPL 2023. Also, if the Indian team qualifies for the World Test Championship finals in June, Bumrah will not be available there either. BCCI is keeping a close eye on him. BCCI is eyeing to play Bumrah in the ODI World Cup to be held in the month of October-November.’
Bumrah represents the Mumbai Indians team in the IPL. With Bumrah unavailable, Jofra Archer will be the backbone of Mumbai’s bowling. He has taken 145 wickets in 120 matches for Mumbai so far since 2013 IPL. So, he has so far taken 128 wickets in Test cricket, 119 in ODI and 67 wickets in T20 cricket for India. Although Bumrah is currently India’s premier pace bowler, his own injuries have taken a toll on the team.
