Chennai Lions’ winning debut in Ultimate Table Tennis Season 4

Pune, 13 July 2023 : The very first match of Indian Oil Ultimate Table Tennis Season 4 witnessed a thrilling match. Defending champions Chennai Lions took a step towards retaining their title with a win over Puneri Paltan table tennis team in their first match. Ultimate Table Tennis Season 4 started today at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Mahalunge-Balewadi, Pune on Thursday.

Chennai Lions played strongly from the start and got off to a promising start by registering a 10-5 win over Puneri Paltan Table Tennis Team. In the first men’s singles match, Chennai Lions veteran Achanta Sharath Kamal earned two crucial points for the team with a 2-1 win over Oman Assar. The Indian legend won the match 11-10, 9-11, 11-6. Aggression and accurate hitting were the hallmarks of his game.

Chennai Lions’ Yangzhi Liu strengthened her team’s lead to 4-2 with a 2-1 win over Archana Kamath in the women’s singles match. The Australian won the first two games easily 11-5, 11-10, but Archana fought back in the third game 10-11. Sharat/Yangzhi combined to give Chennai Lions a comfortable 3-0 win in mixed doubles. The pair easily defeated Omar/Archana 11-5, 11-8 and 11,2. Both of them had a grip on the game from the beginning while playing aggressively.

Manush Shah gives hope of victory to Puneri Paltan table tennis team. He put up a tough fight against Chennai’s Benedict Duda, but the Chennai player rallied 2-1 (11-9, 11-7, 7-11) to clinch the first tie of the Indian Oil Table Tennis Season 4, sponsored by DafaNews for the defending champions.

The final match saw a fierce battle between Sutirtha Mukherjee and Hana Matelova. Haya defeated Sutirtha 2-1 (11-6, 5-11, 11-2) to give the Puneri Patlan table tennis team their first win.
