Coach Dravid put his hand on Surya’s shoulder who is failing in ODI! Said, “He has the quality…”
The third and final ODI between India and Australia will be played on Tuesday (March 22). Both the teams will try to win this match to clinch the series in their favour. The match will be played at the MA Chidambaram i.e. Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Speaking in the press conference held before this match, Indian team’s head coach Rahul Dravid made an important statement about the team’s leading batsman Suryakumar Yadav.
Suryakumar Yadav is getting a chance to play in the middle order in this series as Shreyas Iyer, the leading batsman in the ODI team, is injured. However, he failed to perform as expected in the first two matches. He was dismissed on the first ball in both the matches played in Mumbai and Visakhapatnam. Mitchell Starc got him down both times. This seems to be criticizing him.
In the press conference ahead of the third match, Rahul Dravid was asked about Suryakumar’s poor form. Speaking on it, he said,
“Suryakumar has played extensive T20 and IPL cricket. He did not play much ODI cricket. But more emphasis is being placed on learning. A player of his quality should be given some more time. It is important to be patient with him.”
Suryakumar’s performance in ODI cricket is getting worse. He has managed to score only 49 runs in 6 ODIs played in 2023. However, on the other hand, his bat speaks well in T20 cricket. He has been at the top of the T20 batting rankings for quite some time now.
