The Indian team reached the semi-finals for the third time in a row with a brilliant performance in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa. Later, the International Cricket Council (ICC) shared a video praising her. In this, she was directly compared to India’s all-time great batsman and former captain Sourav Ganguly.

India needed a win against Ireland in their last league match. The match could not be completed due to rain interruption. However, the Indian team won by 5 runs according to the Duckworth-Lewis rule. With this, India’s place in the semi-finals was also confirmed. Smriti, who opened the match, scored 87 runs off 56 balls with the help of 9 fours and 3 sixes. Earlier she also completed a half century in the match against England.

ICC shared a video of her batting. The two-part video features former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly in the upper part and Smriti batting in the lower part. Interestingly, the blows of both of them look very similar. Captioning this video, ICC wrote, ‘The resemblance between the two is striking.’

Although Smriti is India’s second most experienced women cricketer, she is seen as the future of the Indian team. So being compared to Ganguly at a very young age is important for her. Ganguly is known as India’s successful batsman as well as captain. He has scored more than 33,000 international runs and 64 centuries in his career.
