“Crore contracts don’t mean success”, veteran slams BCCI, says on IPL…
The Indian team has been under constant criticism after losing the final match of the World Test Invincibility Tournament. Along with the Indian team, many also looked at the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI. Former India captain and former selection committee chairman Dilip Vengsarkar has now joined these critics. He said that BCCI is responsible for the poor performance of the Indian team.
India suffered a humiliating defeat against Australia in the final match of the World Test Championship. After that, the demand for change of Indian team players as well as coach is coming to the fore. The Indian team has not won any ICC trophy for the last ten years. Vengsarkar criticized the BCCI on this issue. Speaking in an interview, he said,
“Unfortunately, the time has come to say that the last six-seven years have seen people in the selection committee, who have no goals, no understanding of the game. You are the richest cricket board in the world. But tell me how many great cricketers you have produced in the last five-six years? In IPL, players are playing only for crores of rupees. Getting multi-crore contracts and media rights is not success.”
He also criticized the decision to make Shikhar Dhawan the captain of the Indian team in the interim. In terms of future, you should have given someone else a chance, he expressed. It was Vengsarkar who gave Virat Kohli a chance in the Indian team when he was the chairman of the selection committee. After that, he was removed from the post of selection committee chairman.
