India’s Test and ODI squads for the West Indies tour were announced on Friday (June 23). Rohit Sharma has retained the responsibility as the captain of the Test team, while returning veteran Ajinkya Rahane has once again been given the vice-captaincy of the team. However, Mumbai’s Sarfraz Khan, who has been performing consistently in domestic cricket for the past two years, has been dropped once again.

Some selection committee members said that Sarfaraz will get a chance in the Indian team soon. He did not get a chance in the first two matches of the Test series against Australia earlier this year. After a big controversy, he got a place in the team for the third and fourth Tests. However, the debut could not take place.

Sarfraz scored runs at an average of 154.44 in six matches in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy. He scored 928 runs with 3 centuries and 2 fifties. He continued this impressive form in the 2021-22 season. He scored 982 runs at an average of 122.75 with 4 centuries and 2 fifties. Also this season also his bat failed once again. In just six matches, he scored 556 runs at an impressive average of 92.66. Apart from this, his performance was excellent in Irani Trophy and Duleep Trophy as well.
