“Dhoni and I started together, but…” Karthik recounts the career story

The next season of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL, the world’s biggest professional T20 league, will begin at the end of March. Before that, all the teams have also started preparations. Royal Challengers Bangalore, one of the most famous teams in the IPL, has released podcasts of some of its key players. Dinesh Karthik, the team’s veteran wicketkeeper, recalls the early days of his career in this podcast.

In a podcast released by RCB, Karthik shared some of his early days. Talking about the comparison between himself and Dhoni, he gave an excellent answer. he said,

“We both started our careers together. Before that I made my international debut. After that his India A tour went well. He got opportunities and he took advantage of every opportunity. He became the best wicketkeeper and batsman in the world.”

Karthik started his international career in September 2004 and Dhoni in December 2004. Later, Dhoni came to be known as India’s most successful captain. Under his leadership, India won all the ICC trophies. Dhoni then ended his successful career by retiring in 2020.

On the other hand, Karthik did not get many opportunities in the Indian team. However, he took full advantage of the opportunity. After the age of 35, his game seemed to blossom. He made his comeback to international cricket last year directly after the 2019 ODI World Cup. He was seen playing the finisher role in the T20 team. However, he did not appear in the team again after the defeat of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup.
