“Dhoni could have played 100 Tests but…”, Shastri’s big revelation after 9 years
The former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni is now in the final phase of his cricket career. Dhoni, who retired from international cricket three years ago, currently only plays in the IPL. 41-year-old Dhoni is said to be playing his last IPL season this year. Meanwhile, former Indian coach and commentator Ravi Shastri has made a revelation about the incident at the time of his Test retirement.
Dhoni announced his Test retirement very early. In 2014, Dhoni suddenly retired after the third Test on the tour of Australia. By that time, Dhoni had played 90 matches in his Test career. Speaking on this issue, Shastri said,
“Dhoni could definitely have played ten more matches as captain in Test cricket. A milestone of playing 100 Tests was very close to him. He could have retired in front of his fans. However, one thing he decided he wouldn’t change again. He never played for himself. He made room for others.”
If we consider Dhoni’s Test career, he represented India in 90 matches. In this he scored 4876 runs at an average of 38.09. Under his leadership, the Indian team reached the first position in the World Test rankings for the first time. After retiring from Tests in 2014, Dhoni made a splash in ODI and T20 cricket in 2020. After that now he is seen playing only in IPL. There is a high possibility that he will retire from the IPL after the current season.
