Do not stop arguing! BCCI’s big move against ICC’s decision to call Indore pitch ‘bad’
The third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 series between India vs Australia was played at Indore. The third Test match played at the Holkar Cricket Stadium between March 1 and 5 ended in just three days. Also, the wickets started falling from the first day itself. Australia defeated India by 9 wickets in this match. Many questions were raised due to the pitch in this match. After this, according to the report of match referee Chris Broad from ICC, the pitch of Holkar Stadium was given poor rating. Also, Maidana was awarded three demerit points, which will last for the next five years.
Now the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI has raised its voice against this decision of ICC. They have sent a letter to the ICC to review the pitch rating.
The Test match ended in three days
The third Test match between India vs Australia ended within three days. In this, India suffered a shock defeat by 9 wickets in the first session of the third day. As a rule, when any ground receives five demerit points, that ground is suspended from hosting any international cricket matches for 12 months. Also, if there are 10 points, it is suspended for 24 months.
Hastily rated
According to media reports, appeals are always made because it is believed that the ratings were given in haste. The on-field umpire’s decision came hours before the end of the Test match, which was unusual in such cases by the ICC. According to BCCI officials, it may be reviewed again. If possible, the result can be reduced from the average. A two-member committee of the ICC will now look into BCCI’s objection.
The decision regarding the Rawalpindi pitch had to be changed
The ICC has already reconsidered such a case. The ICC recently overturned its verdict on the Rawalpindi pitch, which was initially declared ‘below average’. Also, one demerit mark was awarded. However, after an appeal by the Pakistan Cricket Board, the ICC again withdrew its rating and withdrew its decision on the stadium to host the World Test Championship Test.
Sourav Ganguly Cricket Committee President
After the BCCI’s appeal, a two-member committee of the ICC General Manager and the Cricket Committee Chairman will review the decision of the match officials. Sourav Ganguly is the president of the cricket committee. Also, former PCB CEO Wasim Khan is the General Manager. In this case, there may be another official to handle the matter instead of Ganguly as the BCCI is opposed to the decision. The ICC has to make a final decision within 14 days of receiving the appeal. Everyone is paying attention to what decision is required in such a situation.
