“Don’t criticize Rohit, he’s a true leader”, ran a colleague to back him up
India lost to Australia by 209 runs in the final of the World Test Championship. After this defeat, India’s captain Rohit Sharma is on the target of critics. Rohit Sharma became India’s captain in all three formats after Virat Kohli stepped down last year. However, he has always faced criticism for his individual and team performances. However, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has supported Rohit.
The Indian team lost in the final of the World Test Championship for the second time in a row. As the captain, Rohit took some decisions in this match which many expressed displeasure with. Many people were not satisfied with the decision to sit out Ravichandran Ashwin. Also, Rohit was seen to be somewhat lacking in bowling change. Apart from this, Rohit could not perform as expected as a batsman in both the matches. That is why he was widely criticized. Speaking in an interview in the background of all this, Harbhajan Singh, who was once a teammate of Rohit Sharma, said,
“I have been seeing for some time now that people are dropping the level when criticizing Rohit Sharma. Cricket is a team sport. A single player alone cannot get you through everything. You can definitely talk about his performance. However, focusing alone is wrong. Everyone makes mistakes in leadership. However, Rohit has vast experience and is a true leader.”
After this match, the Indian team will now take to the field for the first time. Rohit will be seen leading India in the series against West Indies starting from July 12.
