Pune 28th June 2023 – Kidus XI and Madhya Railway (Central Railway) teams won against each other on Wednesday. Babasaheb Ambedkar maintained his progress in the invitational hockey tournament.
Kidus XI defeated Poona Hockey Academy 3-1 in a shoot-out after trailing by one goal in the tournament at Major Dhyan Chand Ground in Nehurnagar. The match was tied 2-2 at the scheduled time. In the second match of the day, on the strength of Aditya Rasal’s three goals, the Central Railway team defeated the Pune City Police team 8-0.
In the first match, Ashfaq Shaikh scored in the eighth minute to give the Poona Hockey Academy team an instant lead. The Poona hockey team maintained their lead till the break. In the second half, in the 48th minute, Kidus XI equalized with Abhishek Aspat’s goal. After the tie in the last session, both the teams played at an extremely fast pace and tried tirelessly to get scoring opportunities. First in the 58th minute, Shubham Thakur scored on a penalty corner and equalized for Kidus XI. But, in the very next minute, Manoj Pillai scored a goal for Kid’s XI to tie the match 2-2.
Sanket Hire, Swapneel Dhere, Shubh Thakur from Kidus XI succeeded in their efforts in the shoot out which was held for victory. Only Sanket Patole could score a goal from the Poona hockey team. Rihan Sheikh, Abhishek Aspat from Kidus, while Vansh Pardeshi, Hussain Sheikh, Rohan Rapol from Poona Hockey failed to find the back of the net.
In the second match, the Central Railway, Pune team resoundingly defeated the Pune City Police team on the strength of Aditya Pisal’s three goals (20th, 50th, 52nd minute). Vinit Kambli (31st, 44th minute) and Stephen Swamy (4th, 22nd minute) scored two goals each to support Aditya. Another goal was scored by Govind Nag (17th minute).
