Dr. Babasaheb Invitational Hockey Tournament; Sports Prabodhini award

Pune 2nd July 2023 – The Krida Prabodhini team won the Bharat Ratna by coordinating the aggressive and fast game. Won the title in the Babasaheb Ambedkar Invitational Hockey Tournament. In the final match, Krida Prabodhini defeated Pune’s GST and Customs team 4-2.

Despite trailing early in the final match at the Major Dhyan Chand Ground in Nehrunagar, Krida Prabodhini clinched the title with an aggressive performance in the second half. Interestingly, the match was tied at 1-1 at the interval. Aniket Gurav scored a goal in the fourth minute of the match to lead the GST team. However, after only four minutes, Mayur Dhanwade equalized at the corner for Krida Prabodhini. Despite this initial flurry, the match remained tied at 1-1 at the break.

As play started in the second half, Sagar Shingade scored another corner kick in the 35th minute to give Krida Prabodhini the lead. After that, Krida Prabodhini took complete control of the match by scoring two more goals within two minutes. First Venkatesh Kenchi scored in the 45th minute followed by Sachin Rajgade in the 46th minute. After trailing 4-1 at the crucial moment in the match, the GST-Customs team finally had the satisfaction of reducing the deficit to one goal. Harish Shingdi scored this goal in the 53rd minute of the match.

Meanwhile, the Income Tax team won the third position by defeating the Central Railway, Pune team 3-2. Chirag Mane opened an account for Income Tax. Then Govind Nag and Ganesh Patil scored for Central Railway to take the lead. This time, Tejas Chavan and Atharva Kamble scored in the 29th and 31st minute respectively to take the Incometax team into the lead.

For the title of winner, Krida Prabodhini team was awarded cash prize of Rs.20,000, while runner-up GST-Customs team was awarded Rs.10,000 in cash. The Income Tax team received a prize of five thousand rupees. The prize distribution of the competition was done by Siddharth Zalte. Mahendra Nikalje, Nitin Nikalje, Sunil Ranpise, Anand Chhajed, Anil Jagtap, Lino John, Jayakumar Muthiah etc. dignitaries were present on this occasion.
