Due to ‘these’ two reasons, Australia lost the match in Delhi too, the fault of the batsmen!
The Australian team had to accept defeat in the second consecutive Test match against India. India won the first Test by an innings and 132 runs. In the second test match, the visiting Australian team had to accept defeat by 6 wickets. Australia’s legendary fast bowler and team captain Pat Cummins pointed out the team’s two mistakes, which led to their defeat.
The Australian captain was speaking to the media after the second Test defeat. This time he looked at some of the major reasons for the defeat. According to Pat Cummins, the Australian batsmen were not ready to play sweeps and reverse sweeps against the spinners. But still he tried to play such a shot. Cummins said that at least four-five players, including vice-captain Steve Smith, lost wickets in this manner.
“I think India bowled really well,” Cummins said at the post-match press conference. Batting was not easy, but some players strayed from their style of play.” Cummins admitted that not all batsmen can bat in the same way on such a pitch. “Every batsman has a method. I don’t think any one method will be beneficial for everyone in such a situation. “Unfortunately a few of us got out while playing cross-batting shots,” said Cummins.
Cummins went on to admit that the Australian team should have scored at least 300 runs after batting first. On this, Cummins said, “Looking back, I think it would have been good for the team to have scored 300 here. The team’s performance was disappointing. And played like the second innings of Nagpur. We were in a strong position for longer periods of the match. But couldn’t score more runs in the last.”
Cummins further praised India’s bottom batsmen. Cummins feels that the contribution of the batsmen at the bottom of the Indian team was important for the team to win. In the first Test match against Australia, Ravindra Jadeja and Akshar Patel made Australia sweat in the last overs. Also in the second Test, Akshar Patel in partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin took the team to the desired score and reduced Australia’s lead to just one run. Akshar scored individual fifties in both these matches. The third match between the two teams will be played from March 1 at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
