England lost after giving the follow-on
In this match England team declared the innings on 435 runs losing 8 wickets while batting first. Chasing the challenge of 436 runs, the innings of the New Zealand team ended on just 209 runs. Thus England had a lead of 226 runs. So he gave follow on to New Zealand. This time, New Zealand showed strength in the second innings. He lost all the wickets and made a mountain of 483 runs. After this, England were challenged to 257 runs for victory. Overcoming this challenge, England came close to victory, but New Zealand snatched the win. England could score only 256 runs this time, so New Zealand pocketed the match by 1 run. With the victory, a special record was registered in the name of New Zealand.

4th team to win after follow-on
New Zealand became only the fourth team to win after the follow-on. Earlier England had done this feat twice and India once. In December, 1894, playing at the Sydney Cricket Ground, England won against Australia by 10 runs after the follow-on. After that, a Test match between these two teams at Leeds in July 1981 ended in favor of England. After getting a follow-on from Australia, England fought hard to win by 18 runs.

Then in March, 2001, a 3-match Test series was played between India and Australia in Kolkata. In the second match, the Indian team scored 657 runs by following on. Chasing this challenge, Australia’s innings ended on 212 runs. Thus India pocketed this match by 171 runs. After this, New Zealand also became the fourth team to win after the follow-on.
