Even after hitting a six, the score is the same! Badoni’s mistake in the 19th over cost Lucknow dearly
On Monday (April 10), Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants witnessed a thrilling match at the IPL ground. RCB had to accept defeat on the last ball of this match. There were many incidents in the match which made the fans miss a beat. Ayush Badoni, who came to bat for Lucknow as an impact player, scored important runs for the team. But he lost his wicket due to his own mistake. As a result Lucknow had to fight till the last ball to win.
Lucknow were given a target of 213 runs to win this match. Lucknow won the match on the strength of Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran’s storming innings. However, RCB also put in a tremendous display in batting and then bowling. As per the newly implemented impact player rule in IPL, Lucknow called Ayush Badoni to the field in place of Amit Mishra. Chasing the target, Badoni scored 30 off 24 balls. After setting up the pitch well, Badon lost his wicket in the 19th over due to a mistake of his own.
The fast bowler came to bowl in the 19th over for Lucknow. At that time, Lucknow’s score was 198 for 6 and the team needed 15 runs from 12 balls to win. Badoni hit a boundary on the third ball of the six, while on the fifth ball he played the ball straight for a six. Badoni hit a six towards fine leg on the fifth ball of the over, but also lost his wicket on the same ball. Ayush was completely outside the off stumps while playing this shot. He sat down and hit a backward six, but this time his bat hit the stumps. The Parineem umpires declared him out and the team did not even get six runs off the sixes.

Meanwhile, had Badoni not lost his wicket, victory would not have been too difficult for Lucknow. Because Harshal Pate dismissed Mark Wood and Jaydev Unadkat in the last over after this wicket. The team needed one run off the last ball. Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi were the last pair on the pitch. Avesh Khan could not play the last ball bowled by Harshal. But wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik fumbled in catching the ball and the batsmen completed one run. Karthik’s mistake led to RCB’s defeat. (Ayush Badoni hit wicket against Royal Challengers Bangalore)
