Former West Indies captain Jason Holder gave a big reaction about Test cricket. Holder is only the second West Indies player to take 150 wickets and 2500 runs in the Test format. Earlier, the legendary Garry Sobers had done such a feat. Sobers has played 93 Test matches in his career. According to Holder, he can never break this record of Sobers.
Jason Holder was talking to the media after the second day of the Centurion Test between South Africa and West Indies. This time he left out three of the strongest teams in international cricket, saying that no team is playing more Test cricket. Holder said, “The way the matches are played in world cricket at the moment, every team is playing less Test cricket except for the big three countries. We have played an average of six to eight Tests in the last three Tests. We have got six Tests this year and next year we have a total of six Tests to play. So we have to join the playing XI in every match to play 100 Tests.”
“We can look at Craig Braithwaite as an example. He has been playing for so many years, but he has not played 100 Tests. Craig has been playing since before Joe Root, but the Englishman has played 130 Tests so far. It shows how much more Tests the England team is playing than us.” Meanwhile, Braithwaite made his debut in 2011 and has played 83 Tests so far. On the other hand, England Test captain Joe Root has played 129 Test matches even after making his debut in December 2012.
