Exciting end to New Zealand’s first T20I in Sri Lanka, ‘Such’ win after 17 years

The Sri Lankan team is currently on a tour of New Zealand. The three-match T20 series between the two teams began on Sunday (April 2). In the first match of the series, the fans got to see a great fight between the two teams. Batting first, the Sri Lankan team scored 196 for 5 in 20 overs. In reply, New Zealand also scored 196 for 8. After that, both the teams faced each other in the Super Over. New Zealand batted for the first time and scored 8 for 2 in the Super Over. In reply, however, the Sri Lankan team took 12 wickets without losing a single wicket.
Sri Lankan openers Mathum Nisanka and Kusal Mendis could not give the team the desired start in this match between the two teams. Both lost their wickets for 0 and 25 runs respectively. But then Kusal Perera, who came at number three, scored an unbeaten 53 runs. Also, Charith Aslanka played an important knock of 67 runs in the middle order. Daryl Mitchell top scored for New Zealand with 66 runs in reply. This was Sri Lanka’s first T20 win in New Zealand in 17 years.
Earlier on 22 December 2006, Sri Lanka won the T20I in New Zealand. In 2006, Sri Lanka won the match by scoring just 62 runs, with 51 runs coming from Sanath Jayasuriya alone. New Zealand scored 162 runs when batting first. But the match could not be completed due to rain and the umpires gave Sri Lanka a target of just 45 runs to win. But even before that, the Sri Lankan team was sitting at 62 for one in 5.5 overs.
