Faf du Plessis must play in World Cup! Indian legend’s advice to South Africa board

The Indian Premier League 2023 season has been amazing for the opening pair of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. The duo put on a 172-run partnership for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday (May 18). Virat scored a century in this match and du Plessis contributed 71 runs. In the background of this stormy innings, these two are being appreciated everywhere. Meanwhile, Indian team legend Dinesh Karthik has expressed his desire to see Du Plessis in South Africa’s World Cup team.

Faf Du Plessis is the highest run-scorer in IPL 2023 season. He has scored 702 runs in the first 13 league matches. Meanwhile, his average is 58.50 and strike rate is 153.95. Faf has scored a total of eight fifties in the current season. After seeing Faf’s performance, he wants to play in ODI World Cup 2023. Dinesh Karthik also wants Faf to get a chance to play in the upcoming ODI World Cup.

Speaking at the ICC Review, Karthik said, “I am not surprised by the form of Faf du Plessis. Because I think he is a great player. He is also a very good leader. He has batted consistently in the last four-five IPL seasons. This year too, his performance has been good. If he is not played in the World Cup, it will be a loss for South Africa. Faf is fully ready to play the World Cup. He is a player who can make a big impact as a captain and as a batsman.”

Meanwhile, Faf had announced his retirement from Test cricket in 2021. He played his last international match for the African team in February 2021. Faf is available to play in limited overs cricket. But in the last two years, he has not even got a chance to play an ODI or T20 match for South Africa. Nevertheless, Faf’s performance in IPL 2023 is certainly commendable.
