Thursday (July 6) was a historic one for the Netherlands cricket team. In the qualifier matches for the ODI World Cup 2023, Netherlands on Thursday won against Scotland by 4 wickets. Bass de Lied for the Netherlands put in a strong performance to earn the Netherlands a place in the World Cup. He was also awarded the Man of the Match award. Interestingly, earlier his father Tim has also played three World Cups for the Netherlands.
It was a do or die match for both the teams. Because this match was going to determine the final team for the ODI World Cup. Scotland batted brilliantly and set up a challenge of 278 runs in front of the Netherlands. With the team in trouble, all-rounder D Leed batted with a storm, hitting 123 runs off just 92 balls. Earlier he also picked up five wickets while bowling. He became only the fourth cricketer in international cricket to achieve such a feat.
Bas de Leed has so far played 29 ODIs and 31 T20 Internationals for the Netherlands. He has 642 and 610 runs to his name in both these formats respectively. As a bowler, he has taken 19 wickets in ODI cricket and 27 wickets in T20 cricket.
Interestingly, Bas’s father, Tim, has also been a prominent cricketer of the Netherlands. He represented the Netherlands in three World Cups in 1996, 1999 and 2003. He also dismissed Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid against India and Saeed Anwar and Inzamam-ul-Haq against Pakistan on the World Cup stage. He had recorded 400 runs and 29 wickets while playing 29 ODI matches in his career.
